The Colombo Magistrate’s Court granted permission on Thursday, December 1, for seven defendants including the former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa to travel overseas subject to certain conditions, in the case filed against Avant Garde.
The conditions imposed require the defendants to inform the Attorney General and courts in writing a week prior to the intended date of travel.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya issued the order when the seven defendants were produced before courts today.
The case was postponed to February 13, 2017 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya, adding that the case will be taken up before a new magistrate.
The former defence secretary responded to a statement made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

While the case was postponed to February 9, 2017, the remaining 23 suspects were ordered to be present at court on the said date.
Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias ‘Karuna Amman’ appealed for bail in court today, through a motion presented by his attorney-at-law.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya said that the decision on whether bail will be granted or not will be reached on December 5, after considering the facts presented.
The attorney-at-law representing Karuna Amman pointed out to court that a letter was sent via registered post to the Presidential Secretariat requesting that the vehicle in question be taken into custody.
