The Railway Trade Union Alliance will not launch the scheduled island-wide strike tomorrow.
The Trade Union Alliance has taken this decision following discussions with President Maithripala Sirisena, today (01) at the Parliament’s premises.
The Unions had earlier decided to launch a token strike from midnight today with the aim of protecting the rights of employees of the Department of Railways.
Meanwhile, a group of representatives, including President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association Gemunu Wijeratne, also held a discussion with the President today.
During the discussion the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association stated that they will not join in the island-wide strike scheduled from midnight today.
Before the implementation of the new fine system, the Motor Traffic Act should be amended and the amended Act should be submitted to the Attorney General and later it should present to the Parliament for its approval.
It was also mentioned that traffic rule violations related to excessive speed and overtaking from the left, could be further discussed in the future.
Minister of Transport, Nimal Siripala De Silva, and the Deputy Minister, Ashoka Abeysinghe also joined the discussion.
