A suspect involved in a shooting in the Rattharuwa area on the Kurunegala – Puttalam main road has been arrested by the Police.
A Poice Sub-inspector was killed on the spot while a Sergeant and Constable were injured when two unidentified gunmen opened fire at a Police patrol vehicle close to a hotel in the Rattharuwa area.
The Police Headquarters said that the shooting took place last night when the Police had attempted to inspect a suspicious car.
Following the shooting, the two shooters had abandoned the car and fled while one of the suspects was later apprehended during raids conducted by the Police.
Police said that the suspect is a resident of Moratuwa and is due to be produced in court today.
Police investigations are underway to apprehend the remaining suspect.
