AG says team of legal officers will examine COPE Report

A team has been set up by the Attorney General to investigate into the COPE report on the controversial Central Bank bond transaction.This committee, which is appointed by the Attorney General, will function under the supervision of the Deputy Solicitor General.

Attorney General Jayantha Jayasuriya said the team will also comprise of two attorneys-at-law.The Attorney General stated, the team of legal officers will examine the COPE report on the bond transaction and present a preliminary report on the future course of legal action that could to be taken in this regard.

Recommendations have also been sought on the future course of action that need to be taken considering the evidence gathered, when compiling the COPE report on the bond transaction.

The Attorney General also said, he had instructed the officials to inquire into the manner in which the evidence submitted could be utilised, and to expeditiously present their findings to him.
