The National Forum of the Land Advocacy Project in Eastern and Sabaragamuwa Provinces was held on Monday. A distinguished gathering was among those present at the event.
Chairman of the Legal Aid Commission, Rohan Sahabandu said that:
People who are in Sri Lanka, they have problems. Land problems. while 82% percent of land is state land
“I myself was shocked to find that”, he said and added that if 82 % is state land, it is only 18% that is owned by the private.
“When the state owns a land it has to be given to the people, otherwise what’s the point in the state having a land?” asked the chairman who pointed out that it has to be given to a person either by a permit or a grant or a lease or some sort of a document.
