A hartal campaign was in effect in the North on Tuesday against the shooting of two university students. Schools, businesses, government and private institutions were closed in the Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Killinochchi, Vavuniya and Mannar districts in line with the hartal.
Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara commented on the incident at an event today noting that no one knew who these persons were, and there was there was no attempt to cause an pressure or cause a death.
“We did not know who these persons were”, he said but added that following the incident it has been understood the serious nature of this, and appropriate measures have been taken.
