The project to provide access to clean drinking water to the people of Sinhapura, Polonnaruwa, which commenced on August 20 ,under the Gammadda 100 Day Initiative, was declared open on Sunday.
The villagers of Sinhapura, Polonnaruwa lacked a basic necessity – clean drinking water. These villagers were forced to toil on a daily basis in their search for clean drinking water.
Today, under the Gammadda 100 Day Initiative, the plight of these people including children of the Sinhapura Gemunu Viharaya Dhamma School and Pre School, was eased to a great extent.
The project was declared open under the auspices of Group Director of the Capital Maharaja Organisation Limited, Chevaan Daniel. Dr. Prakash Priyadharshana and M.U. Ayuwardena provided financial assistance for the project.
Children of the Sinhapura Pre School were also provided with the basic requirement of water under the Gammadda 100 Day initiative on Sunday. Sachini Dias and Indrani Dias are the benefactors of this project.
Construction of the Buddha shrine at Gemunu Viharaya also commenced in line with the Gammadda 100 Day Initiative.
The distribution of books and a tree-planting campaign also got underway parallel to the opening of the clean drinking water project.
