The Ceylon German Technical Training Institute (CGTTI) will introduce a short program aimed at training trishaw and motorcycle mechanics – much needed, given the huge two and three-wheeler numbers and also a similar program to train mechanics in boat engine repairs, CGTTI, Chairman Vinod Moonesinghe said.However, he said CGTTI will need to change emphasis from internal-combustion engines to electric motors, as electric vehicles gradually replace petrol and diesel-powered vehicles. “The government’s emphasis on solar power, particularly for use in agriculture, means we will have to expand into those areas. Mechatronics will become more important, as smart agriculture starts taking off.”
