Sri Lanka tops the freedom of movement in the South Asian region according to the ‘Human Freedom Index 2019’ released this month.Sri Lanka has obtained full marks when it comes to ‘freedom of domestic movement’, ‘freedom of foreign movement’ and ‘women’s freedom of movement’ positioning it well above India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan. The index does not cover Afghanistan and The Maldives. The ‘Human Freedom Index (HFI) 2019’, that covers 162 countries, has ranked Sri Lanka at 110th position based on 76 indicators of personal and economic freedom for the year 2017.
