Sri Lanka Navy opened three more RO plants installed at the village of Nedunkulama in Vavuniya, Orubendiwewa Central College, and Dharmapala Primary School in Badulla recently.
The facility at the village of Nedunkulama is capable of producing clean drinking water for 420 families in the area. Meanwhile, the RO system installed at Orubendiwewa Central College will facilitate 140 teachers and 1,830 school children with safe drinking water. In the similar vein 14 staff members, 140 school children and 250 families in the region will be benefited by the RO plant set up at the Dharmapala Primary School. The financial provisions for these RO systems were made by the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease and they were produced and installed making use of the expertise of the Navy’s Research and Development Unit.
Accordingly, the Navy has successfully installed a total of 167 RO facilities across the country to date, facilitating over 79,255 families and 62,124 school children with safe drinking water.
