President of the German Bundestag, Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert accompanied by a Parliamentary delegation is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka in April 2017 on an invitation by Karu Jayasuriya, Speaker of the Sri Lanka Parliament.
The President of the German Bundestag appreciated the achievements of the Government of Sri Lanka and has stated that he decided to visit Sri Lanka out of so many other countries in recognition of Sri Lanka’s achievements on re-establishment of democracy and human rights, during his meeting with the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Germany, Karunatilaka Amunugama.
He further stated that Germany appreciates the path Sri Lanka has taken so far in achieving democracy and that he is looking forward to the upcoming visit to Sri Lanka to share Germany’s experiences and to develop closer relations between the two Parliaments.
Apart from the official discussions with his Sri Lankan counterpart, Karu Jayasuriya, Norbert Lammert is also scheduled to meet the President, Prime Minister and civil society members of the country.
