Sri Lanka and the Republic of Tajikistan signed several agreements related to politics, tourism, sports and the garment industry today.
The President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and his delegation who are in the country were welcomed at the Presidential Secretariat this morning by President Maithripala Sirisena.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Ministers John Amaratunga, Malik Samarawickrama, Dayasiri Jayasekara and Harsha de Silva were present at this meeting.
During the bilateral discussions, the President of Tajikistan said that Sri Lanka could be used as an example for the development of industries as tourism, gems, garments and sports.
In addition to the MoUs signed with regard to four sectors, a draft was also signed between the leaders of both countries for an agreement on international trade and tourism strategies.
President Maithripala Sirisena noted that there is a need to enhance cooperation between both countries for regional security and battling the drug trade.

Founder of the Nelligala International Buddhist Centre and Atamasthanadhipathi Venerable Wathurakumbure Dhammarathana Thero presented a Buddha Statue to the President.
Anunayake of the Malwathu Chapter Most Venerable Niyangoda Vijithasiri Thero, Chief Incumbent of the Rangiri Dambulla Viharaya Venerable Godagama Mangala Thero and other religious leaders were present at the event.
