The employees at the Hambantota Port have now been on strike for a week to date. As their Satyagraha Campaign entered its seventh day today, December 13 the dock-workers also observed Sil – in line with the Uduvap Full Moon Poya day.
The strike and Satyagraha Campaign was commenced by the dock-workers demanding that they be recruited to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority on permanent jobs.
On the morning of December 13, the Leader of the Janasetha Peramuna, Venerable Battaramulle Seelarathana Thero visited the location and joined the Satyagraha Campaign following a discussion with the group.
Ven. Battaramulle Seelarathana Thero (Leader of the Janasetha Peramuna) said:
President Maithripala Sirisena is one who understands the sorrows of the people. Ranil Wickremesinghe does not understand this. He does not understand the woes of the poor.
Ven. Seelarathana Thero requested that the jobs of the youth be reinstated, instead of “taking away their employment”

A South Korean Vessel reached the Hambantota Port today after completing its operations at the Colombo Harbour. According to our correspondent, the vessel operates for re-exports.
Representatives of a private company and their workers entered the Hambantota Port from the main entrance in order to provide services to the said vessel.
However, reports say that these workers too had stepped away from their service and supported the Hambantota dock-workers.
