What would Christmas be like, without Christmas carols?
The word ‘carol’ means dance or a song of praise and joy. The Sirasa Christmas Zone is happening for the second consecutive year and was declared open on Tuesday evening.
The Sirasa Christmas Zone will light up till December 23. The specialty of this year’s Christmas Zone is that the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which was blessed by His Holiness Pope Francis, is available for the public to venerate.
The parade carrying the statue proceeded towards the MTV/MBC Head Office located in Braybrooke Street from Harrison Square down Darley Road. The Sirasa Chirstmas Zone was declared open this evening by His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith.
Minister of Christian Affairs John Amaratunge was also present at the opening.
Capital Maharaja Organisation’s Nedra Weerasinghe spoke at the event. Group Director Nedra Weerasinghe said that the idea of having the Chirstmas Zone is to propagate unity and understanding among all faiths – similar to what was done with the Sirasa Vesak Kalapaya.
Group Director Madam Nedra Weerasinghe said that as a group, and as Sri Lanka’s leading media and national broadcaster ‘we have touched lives over the years. And it is the best time for Sri Lankans to unite and form an inclusive Sri Lanka – for all citizens of Sri Lanka.
