Remains of Pandit W.D. Amaradeva placed at Independence Square for public to pay last respects

The final rites of Pandit W.D. Amaradeva is scheduled to take place on Saturday evening  under full state honours, while a week of mourning has been announced by the state in honour of the late musician.

The remains of Sri Lanka’s most acclaimed musician, is currently lying at the Independence Square in Colombo, for the public to pay their last respects.Funeral Committee Chairperson Professor Sunil Ariyaratne said, the public may pay their last respects to the late musician till 3:30 p.m today, November 05.

Meanwhile, the Police Headquarters states that vehicles will be prohibited access into the Independence Road from 7 a.m. today due to funeral arrangements.

However, the Police Media Unit stated that vehicles with permits will be allowed access to Independence Road.

Parking for those attending the funeral may be located down Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Rajakeeya Mawatha, Gregory’s Road, F.R. Senanayake Mawatha, Maitland Crescent, Independence Square Arcade and Sri Lanka Foundation road.

In addition,  police said the Race Course car park, Malalasekera Mawatha, Torrington and CR & FC car park have been allocated for public parking.
