President Maithripala Sirisena left for India on Sunday to take part in the seventh session of the Conference of Parties to the World Health Organisation Framework Convention on Tobacco Control in New Delhi.
The convention is to commence tomorrow under the auspices of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
President Sirisena is scheduled to address the convention as a special speaker on Monday while he is expected to hold a special meeting with Indian President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena attended a ceremony today to unveil a Buddhist statue at the Sri Isipathanarama Viharaya in Colombo 14.The forty-foot statue which has been constructed at a cost of Rs.4.5 million is similar to that of the statue located at the Polonnaruwa Gal Viharaya.
Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and other public representatives were present for the occasion.
