President, PM attend ceremony to mark 30th anniversary of Ravaya

A ceremony was held in Colombo on Tuesday, November 15, to mark the 30th anniversary of the Ravaya newspaper.

The ceremony was held under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

A large group including politicians and civil society activists were in attendance for the event.

A senior journalist aond cnsultant at the Ravaya Newspaper Victor Ivan said, the people were expecting heavy rain, but the government was only able to deliver a tiny drizzle, while maximum burden is being thrown upon the shoulders of the common man whereas the ministers and parliamentarians continue to receive maximum benefits for themselves. He stated that this has been a key factor that fuels the frustration of the people.

“This shows that the leaders of the good governance government has failed to control the greed of the parliamentarians”, he added.

In response, President Maithripala Sirisena said the aspirations of the 6.25 million people who voted for him are unlimited.

“Victor Ivan, in his speech said that the people were expecting heavy rain but what was delivered was a drizzle. With those same expectations, as the person who you elected as President, I fearlessly say that drizzle wasn’t just a drizzle, it was a welcome drizzle. There are several reasons for that”, President added.
