A Christmas celebration, organised by the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation was held at the St. Joseph’s College Auditorium in Colombo on Monday, November 28.
The event, organised to promote religious harmony and co-existence among school students, included Christmas-themed performances by students from several schools in the Colombo District.
The event was graced by a group including multi-faith religious leaders, and former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.
Speaking at the event former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga said, all of the religious philosophers teach us the same thing, in a different way.
“The teachings of Jesus Christ, the teachings of Lord Buddha, the Upanishads and the teachings of the Prophet – all note that all people are equal and that all people have equal rights”, she said. “As a failure to understand this in Sri Lanka in the recent past, the country had to face a terrible destruction”, she added.
