New York University students demand that NYU be made a sanctuary campus

Hundreds of New York University school students walked out of classes in New York City to demand that NYU be made a sanctuary campus after the surprise presidential election victory of Republican Donald Trump, in the second week of demonstrations around the United States.

The demonstration followed several nights of unrest around the United States in response to the upset victory. Tens of thousands of people have marched in cities from New York to Los Angeles since the results from the November 08 election showed Trump losing the popular tally but securing enough votes in the 538 member Electoral College to win the presidency.

Largely peaceful demonstrators in urban areas have said Trump threatens their civil and human rights.

They have decried Trump’s often inflammatory campaign rhetoric about illegal immigrants, Muslims and women, as well as allegations, which he denies, that the former reality TV star sexually abused women.
