Two suspects have been arrested in Battaramulla in connection with the alleged trafficking of over 100 Sri Lankan women to the Maldives for the purpose of prostitution.
The Ministry of Foreign Employment stated that a raid had been conducted in Battaramulla following a tip off received by the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau, following which the arrests had been made.
Investigations have revealed that over 100 women have been sent to the Maldives by the traffickers, and that the women had been sent on tourist visas.
