The highest rainfall in the past 24 hours was recorded in Ketandola Galle, with a reading of 165.1 mm.The Department of Meteorology says that a rain fall reading of 163. 7 mm was recorded in Baddegama, Galle while a reading of 114.6 mm was recorded in the Thalangahawatte area.
The Southern Province is under immense threat owing to adverse weather conditions. Heavy damages were reported in Kabaragala, Angulugaha after a mound of earth had collapsed onto a house.The disaster was captured on the mobile phone of the owner of the house.

A three-storey house located in Yakkala Vidhiyawatte area along the Colombo – Kandy main road has collapsed.Our correspondent said that a shop which was built on the first floor of the building was declared open yesterday.
The building had collapsed at midnight. No causalities have been reported.
