The Ministry of Justice has decided to update the areas of jurisdiction in the country. Secretary Pathmasiri Jayamanna said, a committee headed by a retired High Court judge will be appointed to look into the matter.
At present, the areas of jurisdiction in the Gampaha, Kandy and Kurunegala Districts are facing many problems due to the imbalance in the facilities provided to those courts.
Jayamanna said, the public is also inconvenienced when filing cases in many of those courts. In addition, police stations are facing problems as they have to file their cases with more than a court.
Secretary to the Ministry, Pathmasiri Jayamanna said that the report will be presented within three weeks.
He added that the areas of jurisdiction will be updated through a gazette notification.
