A regional seminar series on Enhancing Public Financial Reporting to Promote Growth in SAR got underway in Colombo on Thursday. The inauguration event saw the participation of the Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake, Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy , members of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
“It is also appropriate to be attending this conference at a time when, in the next seven days the Government of Sri Lanka through the Minister of Finance, myself, will be presenting the 2017 budget”, said the Minister of Finance
He added that in order to ensure a sense of acceptability of what is being said, governance is being carried out with a ‘display of professionalism’
“I have to play dual role”, explained the Finance Minister who pointed out that he has to be a be a professional, thus, without sacrificing the principles and professionalism. Thus political issues of the country must be addressed realistically, he said.
He noted that the World bank and ADB have had confidence in the new government that got elected in January 2015, and have been enhancing their lending owing to the fact that the funds that have been given are being utilised in proper manner.
