Floods ravage Central Vietnam

Floods in central Vietnam killed 15 people and left six others missing over the weekend, state media reported on Monday, November 7.

Local authorities in Phu Yen province mobilised security forces on Sunday November 6, to evacuate residents to safety as their homes In other parts of the province traffic was disrupted as roads were damaged by landslides triggered by continuous rain.

A report from the National Central Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention said six provinces in central Vietnam and the country’s central highlands were heavily hit by floods with a total of 45.000 houses damaged, 43.000 cattle and poultry drowned and 12.000 hectares (29.650 acres) of rice, sugarcane and vegetables submerged in water.

Last month, floods following torrential rain killed dozens of people in Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces and damaged more than 100,000 houses.
