A delegation of the European Parliament engaged in a tour in the Eastern Province on Wednesday, November 2.
The delegation called on the Chief Minister of the Eastern Province, Hafeez Nazeer Ahamed and several other provincial councillors at the Eastern Provincial Council.The four member delegation also inspected several projects funded by the EU in the province.
Member of the European Parliament Jean Lambert said, they have been working with the change of government and that they had an election observation mission for the elections.
“..so we welcome the way in which the new government seems to be opening up much more in terms of opportunities for economic development for reconciliation”, he added, “we have been discussing about GSP+ and the need for the conformity of Human rights”.
He went on to note, they have been talking about the possibility for constitutional reform but economic development as well, because is the peaceful democratic prosperous future of the people of Sri Lanka.
