China-Sri Lanka business meeting for investment and trade held in Colombo

A China – Sri Lanka business meeting for investment and trade was held in Colombo on Wednesday morning.

The business meeting saw the participation of the Ambassador of China to Sri Lanka – Yi Xianliang, members representing the Sri Lanka- China Business Council and representatives of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

President of the Sri Lanka – China Business Council Lasantha Wickremesooriya said:

Sri Lanka is a small country with a small population yet we are blessed with a lot natural, unique, properties in Sri Lanka. What is required now is the right investment with the right technology.

” So to our Chinese friends I say, please use Sri Lanka as your launching pad not only to cater to this market but also to cater particularly to the large market that is just 20 miles away from us –  India plus the Middle East and the African Continent – which is within a very short distance from Sri Lanka”, he added.

Chief Executive Officer at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Dara Wijethilaka meanwhile said:

In recent years Sri Lanka’s economic partnership with China has developed extending beyond trade and tourism. What needs to be done now is to take persistent efforts to market both of our nations together as partners in progress. Sri Lanka’s focus on attracting foreign direct investment and its ambitious developments plans including VAT of the western region Megapolis and the Colombo City Project are projects that seek to help Sri Lanka develop into a prosperous country to lead forward in economic integration with the rest of the world. China is seen as an important partner in these endeavours.
