The Fisheries Department says that steps are underway to obtain the release of three Sri Lankan fishermen who were arrested by the South Indian Coastguard.
The three fishermen were arrested recently in the seas off Talaimannar, while they were sailing in the fishing vessel named Roshane Yasaaya.
Assistant Director of the Fisheries Department, Lal Silva, said that while the vessel was engaged in fishing activities in the waters off Kachchathivu, it had got caught to strong waves and had drifted towards the Danushkodi area in Southern India.
