The Ministry of Health quotes The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, more commonly known as The Global Fund, as stating that the domestic programme to eradicate HIV/AIDS in the country during the year 2016, has seen much progress.
The Health Ministry says that a large expense is borne by The Global Fund to eradicate HIV/AIDS from Sri Lanka.
Discussions were held between the Minister of Health, and representatives of the Fund, including the Sri Lanka Country Director, over the progress of the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The Ministry said that one of the points discussed was the low spread of HIV/AIDS in the island when compared to other South Asian nations.
Meanwhile, Director of the National STD/AIDS Control Programme, Dr. Sisira Liyanage, said that 180 individuals had tested positive for HIV/AIDS so far during the course of 2016.
