The first celebration of the National Inventors Day 2016 and the Presidential awards Ceremony for the best inventions of the year selected from the local inventors held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at Nelum Pokuna Theater recently.
This awards ceremony organized annually by the Sri Lanka Inventors Commission under the guidance of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Research with the aim of encouraging the local inventors. Six inventors received awards from the President this year.
G.K.A.N Gangodawila, a student from Narammala Mayurapada Central College received the ‘Dasis’ award at the ceremony.
Sri Lanka is the 14th country to celebrate a National Inventors Day. It falls on the birth anniversary of Dr. A N Kulasinghe. A commemorative stamp will also be issued on this day with Dr. Kulasinghe’s portrait.
The National Inventors Day falls on the birth anniversary of Deshabandu Dr. A N S Kulasinghe, Eminent Civil Engineer, Inventor, the 1st Commissioner of the Inventors' Commission.
The Sri Lanka Inventors Commission has introduced new identity cards to the inventors and during the ceremony the President symbolically presented a new identity card to an inventor.
Minister of Science, Technology and Research, Susil Premajayantha, Secretary of the Ministry, R Vijayalakshmi, and the Chairman of Sri Lanka Inventors Commission, Dr. D.C. Mahesh Edirisinghe also attended this occasion.
