National Force to Protect Rights of War Veterans continues hunger strike

The protest launched by the National Force to Protect the Rights of War Veterans, opposite the Fort Railway Station in Colombo yesterday, is still underway.

Our correspondent said that the protesters engaged in the protest through out the night despite the heavy rain.

The group is demanding that pensions be paid for disabled veterans of the tri-forces and the police, who have served for less than 12 years in service. Meanwhile, Police say that one lane of the road entering Colombo opposite the Fort Railway Station has been blocked due to the protest, adding however that vehicles could travel on the other lane of the road.
