Ceylon Teachers’ Services Union Secretary expresses concern over ‘rumours’

The Ceylon Teachers’ Services Union states, various factions have begun spreading rumors that the cooperative society of the education sector has become bankrupt.

Secretary for the Ceylon Teachers’ Services Union Mahinda Jayasinghe stated that  a group has been spreading false information that the money has disappeared, and that the union has used this money for other purposes.

“The demand for loans has increased dramatically so we issued a sum of Rs.2.283 billion in loans for the month of September. However, our monthly income was only 700 million”, he said.

He went on to note, they have received many loan applications for the month of October, but that there will be a delay in members receiving money as they have to be on the waiting list.

“They are using this situation to spread false rumors”, he pointed out;
