The Education Ministry will remove all flaws in the operation of the student insurance scheme, Suraksha, to improve the usability of the scheme to benefit all students, Ministry sources said yesterday. Education Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said the Cabinet had decided to introduce maximum student insurance benefits under Suraksha. He said it was false that some media reported that the government had decided to scrap the Suraksha Insurance Scheme, which benefits more than four million schoolchildren. He said he had taken the responsibility to continue it without allowing any malpractice to take place around it.
