The Department of Meteorology today issued Advisory for Heavy Rain, Strong wind and Severe Lightning says that Prevailing showery condition in the South-western part of the country (particularly in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces) is expected to continue during nextfew hours. Heavy falls above 100 mm may occur at some places.Showers or thundershowers will occur in the other areas (particularly in Uva and Central provincesand in Galle, Matara, Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa and Ampara districts) and fairly heavy falls above75 mm are likely at some places.

The Department of Meteorology advises thatpeople should:
Seek shelter, preferably indoors and neverunder trees.
Avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations and open water bodies during thunderstorms.
Avoid using wired telephones and connected electric appliances during thunderstorms.
Avoid using open vehicles, such as bicycles, tractors and boats etc.
Beware of fallen trees and power lines.
