President addresses Tri-Service and Police Personnel in Jaffna

President Maithripala Sirisena, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces attended a series of meetings in Jaffna on Saturday (4th March).

The President who arrived at Palaly, making his first formal visit to the Jaffna Security Force Headquarters (SFHQ-J) upon assumption of office was accorded a drive-past Guard Turnout by the troops of the SFHQ-J in line with military traditions.

 

The President first held cordial discussions with a representative gathering of ex-servicemen resident in Jaffna and each of them were awarded with a cash gift of Rs 10,000/- plus a gas cooker.

 

Later, CDS, tri-service Commanders, IGP and all officials sat together for a brief meeting and discussed matters of security and general concern in the peninsula.

 

President Sirisena in his address at the Sri Lanka Air Force hangar insisted the significance of raising the standards of the services and the Police to match with international standards through enhanced professionalism and training.

 

He also underlined the need for everyone to maintain the hard-earned peace for the country's prosperity and assured that the government would do all possible to sustain the status-quo.

 

The President told the gathering that he would do everything possible to make the Sri Lankan Armed Forces one of the best in the world in future.
