Sri Jinarathana Vocational Technical Training Centre declared opened in Seenigama

The Sri Jinarathana Vocational Technical Training Centre in Seenigama was declared open today, December 14, in line with the 73rd birthday celebration of Venerable Galaboda Gnanissara Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the Hunupitiya Gangarama Temple in Colombo.

The president graced the event which also saw the participation of the prime minister.

After the technical college was declared open, the president and the invitees planted saplings at the premises. The Training Centre has been constructed with assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy.

Born on December 14, 1943 in Galaboda, Matara,  Venerable Galaboda Gnanissara Thero was ordained at the Hunupitiya Gangarama Temple in 1954.

He is also the current leader of the Sangha Generation of the Venerable Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Thero and was a student of the Vidyodaya University.

He was a pioneer in inaugurating the Navam Maha Perahera in 1978 and commenced the Jinarathana Technical Training Centre, a place where school dropouts train for self-employment opportunities.

Following this event, President Maithripala Sirisena attended the National Productivity Awards which took place at the Stein Studios.

The President also paid floral tributes to the Buddha Statue, located in the Shakya Arana of Stein Studios, which was unveiled yesterday.
