Several private bus associations are currently engaged in an countrywide strike action.
According to General Secretary of the All Ceylon Private Bus Association Anjana Priyanjith, several bus associations including the Inter Provincial Bus Owners Association and the Southern Province Bus Owners Association have joined the strike.
News 1st correspondents reported that bus commuters have been largely inconvenienced due to the private bus strike which came into effect from last midnight December 1.
Meanwhile, several three-wheeler trade unions are also on strike from midnight in protest of the new fine system.
Secretary of the National Joint Three-Wheeler Owners and Drivers Association Rohana Perera said that several other three-wheeler associations have also expressed their support for the strike.
Meanwhile, Deputy General Manager of the Sri Lanka Transport Board Raja Gunatillake said. the board has organised additional trips to counter the impact of the bus strike.
