Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, President Maithripala Sirisena said he was open for dialogue with trade union leaders.
The president requested trade union leaders and members to enter into dialogue to solve any issue.
He also added that the government is committed to solve issues through dialogue, without using guns and therefore demonstrations. Obstructing roads for three hours discomforts the general public, while strike actions by the medical professionals inconveniences the patient, the president observed.
“It is the innocent, poor and helpless who are battered by this all the time. The rich do not care of these issues of the people”, he said
He added that if the trade unions leaders and professionals have issues, they are invited to have a dialogue with the respective minister and if that meeting does give way to solutions, a committee will be appointed comprising of ministers and have them discuss the matter with every trade union to find a solution.
“If that too does not bear fruit, I am prepared to step in”, said the president.
