President Maithripala Sirisena assured on Wednesday, December 21 that the national security of the country will not be compromised through the proposed constitution.
The president made this statement during a meeting with representatives of the Jathika Ranaviru Ekathuwa headed by Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara.
He said, everything possible is being done for the war heroes and that there is no problem in that and the responsibility lies in his hands, which is why he’s doing “everything possible.”
The president went on to note that he loves Sri Lanka more than anyone else could and that the war heroes, at the time of their retirement can send an application to join another sector job if they require.
I have passed a cabinet paper and formed an a team for this as well, he added, The president further stated:
Last month I handed over the first batch of appointments and many were from the field of engineering, Therefore, we appointed them to the divisional secretariats as technical officers. Furthermore he noted that depending on the capabilities and the skills of the war heroes, they can be assigned to different fields in the state sector. I only request that our war heroes not be used by politicians for their own purposes, he said. He also said, all the problems can be discussed and resolved. Representatives of military associations who attended the meeting said, it was the first time they have received an opportunity to meet the head of state.
