Ministry of Education together with the Government of India will construct a multi-ethnic, trilingual school in Polonnaruwa at a cost of Rs.1, 200 million.
Earlier the Cabinet approved the construction of this school which has classes from grade 6 as the Polonnaruwa Royal College is insufficient to provide access to all students who pass grade 5 scholarship examination.
Rs. 900 million of the cost of construction is borne by the Sri Lankan government while the rest Rs. 300 million is provided by the Government of India.
Accordingly, the proposal made by Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Minister of Education, to sign an MoU with the Republic of India for obtaining the said grant and to implement its constructions with the coordination of the Ministry of Education, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
