MP Vijitha Herath on why “the former president does not vote against the budget”

A media briefing was held  at the party headquarters of the JVP on Thursday, December 1.

Propaganda Secretary of JVP MP Vijitha Herath said that it was seen in recent times that a house was granted to the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa by the government, and that the house was the one in which the former Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar was residing in at Wijerama Mawatha in Colombo 7. He added that this was where the newly-appointed President resided after January 8, while Rs.30 million was allocated by the current government for renovation purposes a few months ago.

“A new supplementary estimate was presented this Monday, November 28. What does it say?”, said. “This is the supplementary estimate. It says that Rs.19.7 million rupees has been allocated to construct a building in the land of the official residence of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. That is an additional 20 million”, he added.

He went on to note that this is “returning the favour for laying the carpet at Sirikotha” and that it is clear to the country why the former president does not vote against the budget.
