Minister Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka convened a media briefing on Wednesday, December 14. Speaking at the briefing, the Field Marshal said that it was paramount that the vessel was secured under international regulations.
The Minister of Regional Development pointed out that there is something called piloting the vessel when being secured and due to the influence of the dock-workers the person at the port had not stepped forward.
He explained that there are only two persons in the Navy who are qualified to carry out that task and one person is the Commander of the Navy. And he had stepped forward to pilot the vessel – and the Navy Commander was in the attire that is required to be worn in such a situation.
He went on to note that the Minister of Justice had made a statement that tarnishes the character of the Commander of the Navy.
“The Minister of Justice did business with Avant Garde”, charged the minister who further noted that the Navy took the lead in putting a stop to that. The Minister of Justice has a grudge and there are conspirators as well, he said.
“We have received information that the Nil Balakaya is leading these groups”, he further revealed.
