Closed for a reason

If railway gates at a level crossing are closed, they are closed for a reason. It means that there is a train on the way, bound to pass the location at any given moment.

Despite the alarms and closed gates, some people have a dangerous habit of crossing the tracks while the gates are closed.

This story is of a woman who lost her life as a result of this dangerous habit.

The 60-year-old decided to continue on the level crossing in Gampaha, despite the gates being lowered. The inevitable happened and she was run over by the on-coming train.

The deceased 60-year-old is a mother of three from Vedamulla, Kelaniya.
