Australia to make Codeine containing medication ‘prescription only’

In Australia, painkillers containing codeine will require a prescription from 2018 amid concerns over misuse.

Codeine which is used to treat pain, as a cough medicine and for diarrhea. Australia’s drug regulator believes the risk of addiction is too great, which is why they took the above steps.

It is not only Australia which has taken steps to stop the sale of over the counter codeine products, even the U. S, most of Europe, Hong Kong and Japan has stopped.
