The foresight of a concerned citizen from Thambuttegama, prevented, what could have been a disastrous railway accident on Monday, November 14.
Vijitha Karunadasa acted immediately when he witnessed that one of the rail tracks between the Thambuttegama and Senarathgama railway stations was broken.
As a result of his actions, the Yal Devi train plying from Jaffna to Colombo, was brought to a halt in the nick of time, possibly saving the lives of hundreds of passengers on board.
After the line was repaired by railway workers, the Yal Devi recommenced its journey following a delay of one hour and twenty minutes.
