Suspect in Kurunegala shooting held under detention orders

Court on Thursday November 17, permitted police to detain and interrogate the suspect arrested over the shooting in Kurunegala, for a period of 48 hours.

The suspect was first produced before the Kurunegala JMO and thereafter produced before the Kurunegala Chief Magistrate Geethani Wijesinghe who granted a 48 hour detention order.

Police said the suspect, Roshan Silva alias Kovil Roha was involved in a series of crimes.

Police added that he is connected to the drive-by homicide close to the Mahara Court and another shooting in Piliyandala. In addition , he is also accused of peddling drugs and armed burglary.

The Colombo Crimes Division, the Peliyagoda Special Crimes Investigations Division and the Kurunegala District Crimes Investigations Divisions are conducting operations to locate the other suspects.

Meanwhile, the funeral of Police Sub Inspector LHM Dissanayake, who was gunned down on Tuesday, will take place tomorrow.
