Rice prices increase despite PMB assurance of ‘stocks released’

The prices of rice in the market have increased.

The Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute reveals that the price of a kilogramme of rice has increased by Rs.5, when compared to the previous month.

A kilogramme of Samba rice which was sold for Rs.88. 50 last month is now being sold at over Rs.95.

Red Kekulu rice which was sold at Rs.75 is now priced at Rs.80.

Chairman of the Paddy Marketing Board M.B. Dissanayake announced that 150,000 metric tonnes of rice has been released to the markets in order to meet the demands and control the prices.
