After viewing a story on our Prime Time News Bulletin at 7 p.m., on our sister channel Sirasa TV, Convernor of the Voice Against Corruption Wasantha Samarasinhe, shared the following views with News 1st.
Convener for the Voice Against Corruption,Wasantha Samarasinghe explained that just as the Finance Minister announced a set of important points yesterday, it was heard in the news that a sum of 7500 million has been allocated from the budget for the HDFC bank. Likewise, 3000 million has been allocated for the investors of the Golden Key company – but these financial institutions that went into disarray due to malpractices are now being rebuilt using the funds allocated for the people.
He further pointed out that the issue is, rather than putting those involved in these malpractices behind bars, they are providing them with incentives. But what must be done is to bring those involved before courts.
He also noted that over 10 billion is being used to either rebuild or develop these financial institutions -and if such institutions cannot operate, the people cannot be held responsible, and it is the duty of the Central Bank to look into it
“This budget had been prepared to provide incentives to other financial institutions that are operating unethically”, he said.
