Railway Department recruits guards after eight years

Railway Department has taken steps to recruit a batch of 114 guards to the departmentafter eight years.


After the new government took office Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala de silva took step to recruit Station Masters, Engine Drivers as well as guards.


There was a need to have 680 guards to provide an efficient service but the Department had only 432 therefore recruiting a batch of 114 guards will help to provide an efficient service to the public.  


The recruitment of the 114 guards was done in a transparent manner by having a written examination as well as an interview.


The Minister said that he was happy to recruit 114 guards which was a long felt need. The recruitment was done in atransparent manner and on merit. He said young blood is needed for the future of the department and steps will be taken to improve their personality to face the future.


Minister de Silva said that his first priority was solving the issues of the employees now I will develop the trains by importing carriages as well as engines as well as the railway lines.
