Pressure from the media will not change anything: Prime Minister Wickremesinghe

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe,  speaking at an event in Ahangama on Sunday said that pressure from the media will not change anything.

“We formed a national government to take over power and develop this country”, said the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

He added that the government has the power of the two main political parties and there is no interest to destroy the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, and neither does the Sri Lanka Freedom Party want to destroy the UNP.

He added that later on the UNP or SLFP might come in to power and may even have to work together like in Germany.

“What we want to do is for both parties to come together and develop this country”, explained the premier who further charged that it is the media that has the biggest problem, because they believe that they will fail if the two parties come together but it is about time that they adapt now, said the Prime Minister.

He further noted that the media should also know what is happening to them. And by next year they will have to change their position from what they are now and no matter how hard they try, this government will go on for five years.

“We will develop this country and hand it to the people”, said the Prime Minister who went on to add that the people will be asked to decide – and “nothing will change just because the media makes a big a noise.”

“We will get the media on our side too”, he said

The Prime Minister made this statement an unveiling ceremony held at the Siri Sudassi Viharaya in Ahangama.
