The Asia Hotels Tourism Investment Conference was held in Colombo on Sunday, November 27, under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena.
The conference saw the participation of a number of investors in the hotel and tourism industry.
Minister of Tourism John Amaratunga, speaking during the event, said that they are anticipating 2.2 million tourists to arrive in Sri Lanka this year, and that by the year 2018/19 they hope to go up to a minimum of three million.
The minister also said with that the country will earn a substantial amount of foreign exchange.
At the conference President Maithripala Sirisena announced the years 2017,2018 and 2019 as the years of tourism investment in Sri Lanka.
The announcement was made with the intention of making plans to successfully face the challenges in the hotels and tourism industry by the year 2020.
